An online MMO, not offline co-op
Loftia is built as an online multiplayer game from the ground up. The Steam store page lists it as an MMO with online co-op and describes a persistent shared world. That means other players are part of the world even when you are not in a group with them. It is a different model from a small co-op game you host for a few friends.
The official website frames Loftia as a cozy life simulation where players build homes, farm and craft together. It advertises shared neighborhoods and group adventures as part of the core experience. The official release date trailer’s description also highlights co-operative farming, crafting and community projects. Social play is clearly central to the design.
Because the world is shared and online, there is no offline mode. The official FAQ explains that the game always requires an internet connection. That applies whether you play with a group or by yourself. Make sure you have a stable connection before you plan a session.
Play on the same server as your friends
The most important rule for playing together is that friends must be on the same server. The official FAQ explains this directly. If you and a friend pick different servers, you will not be in the same world. Agree on a server before you both create characters.
The developer also says players are not permanently locked to one server. That means a choice made early does not have to be a final decision. The exact steps for moving between servers were not verified for this page. Check the in-game options and official announcements once Early Access begins.
The FAQ also says you can play with as many friends as you like. That should be read as an invitation to play socially, not as a technical party-size specification. No exact party cap was confirmed in the checked sources. Group sizes for specific activities may have their own limits in the game.
Solo progress is supported
You do not need a group to make progress in Loftia. The official FAQ confirms that solo progression is supported. You can farm, craft, decorate your home and follow quests at your own pace. The homepage description of the game mentions playing at your own pace as well as with friends.
Solo players still share the world with others. You may see other players in Loftia City or join community activities when you feel like it. That gives solo players the option to be social without committing to a fixed group. It also means the game stays online even when you play alone.
The FAQ is clear that choosing solo play does not remove the online requirement. Your progress is stored with your online account rather than on your own computer. That is also why linking your website account matters during the demo. The same account follows you into Early Access.
Neighborhoods and shared spaces
Housing is one of the main places where multiplayer shows up. The official website describes personal floating islands that link into shared neighborhoods. Your island is your own space for farming, crafting and decoration. The neighborhood connects it with other players.
The October demo includes home setup and decoration in the shared-neighborhood setting. Entering the Player Neighborhood for the first time unlocks the Neighborhood Demo Banner reward. Details such as guest permissions were discussed by the developer as an evolving design. Our housing guide covers what is confirmed so far.
Adventures and community projects
The official October 19 demo announcement confirms group Adventures and social activities in the public trial. These are activities designed for players to do together. The official demo page says bigger world projects expand in Early Access. That suggests more cooperative content after launch.
During development, the studio also described cooperative community farming in the Hanging Gardens. A creator recorded a community farm event during the Beta, which shows the idea in action at that time. Beta events are historical and may work differently now. The Hanging Gardens are part of Early Access rather than the current demo.
Cross-play and platform questions
Loftia launches on Windows and macOS through Steam, with Steam Deck support. All of these use the same Steam version and servers. A Nintendo Switch version is planned for 2027. Whether Switch players will share servers with Steam players has not been confirmed.
The official FAQ describes cross-platform play as an aim the team is evaluating. That is not an unconditional promise. Exact invite menus, private hosting options and cross-platform compatibility were not cross-verified for this page. We will update this guide when the developer confirms more.
Loftia launches with 14 supported languages on Steam, so players from many regions share the world. That can affect which server you and your friends prefer. Specific server regions were not listed in the sources checked for this page. Look at the server options in the game when you start.
Try multiplayer in the demo
The free Loftia demo runs from October 19 to October 26, 2026 on Steam. It includes social play, group Adventures and the shared neighborhood. That makes it a good way to test playing with friends before Early Access. Agree on the same server when you start.
Link your Loftia website account in-game with your email so your progress carries into Early Access. The demo also offers referral rewards for inviting friends. The Pebble Chair requires one invited friend and the Pebble Couch requires two. Rewards are tracked and claimed through your official account.
Find people to play with
The official Loftia Discord is the developer-recommended community. It is a good place to find other players, ask questions and follow event news. The official invite link is listed on the Loftia website and its Discord gateway page. Creator Discord servers are separate from the official one.
Early Access opens on November 3, 2026 at 1pm EST. The announced US price is US$29.99, with a limited-time launch price of US$24.89. Every player in your group needs their own copy of the game. There is no required subscription for online play.
If you are unsure whether multiplayer suits you, start with the demo and play solo at first. You can join a group Adventure or visit the neighborhood whenever you are ready. The game is designed to let you move between solo and social play. That flexibility is one of its main appeals.
