Starter farming in the demo
The free demo, running on Steam from October 19 to October 26, 2026, includes growing crops. The official demo announcement lists crops alongside opening quests, salvaging and home decoration. Massively Overpowered’s Beta preview noted that the tutorial introduced growing before the home island. Farming is one of the first systems a new player meets.
The demo is the right place to learn the basics. Follow the story prompts that introduce farming and see how crops fit into your daily routine. The demo has a restricted scope, and skills are capped at Level 5 during the trial. Advanced systems are reserved for Early Access.
Link your Loftia website account in-game so your farm progress carries over. Linked progress, items and quests carry into Early Access. Unlinked progress cannot be recovered later. That makes linking as important as planting your first seeds.
Soil plots versus advanced systems
Loftia combines traditional farming with more sustainable technology. A July 2023 development diary from Qloud Games confirmed traditional soil plots alongside the hydroponics concept. That diary is historical, but it shows that both styles were part of the design. The official website still names sustainable farming approaches as a core feature.
A sensible approach is to learn starter crops before investing in complex systems. That is an editorial recommendation rather than an official rule. Basic farming teaches you how crops, tools and your island fit together. Advanced systems make more sense once those basics are familiar.
Your floating island is where your own farm lives. The official website describes personal islands used for farming, crafting and decoration. Planning space for crops alongside your crafting area keeps your routine simple. Our housing guide covers island layout ideas that are confirmed so far.
Hydroponics and nutrients
The official Early Access overview describes Hydroponics Stations. These stations are nutrient-fed rather than relying only on soil. They also give a chance of producing Super Crops. That makes hydroponics one of the most interesting farming upgrades planned for Early Access.
The overview does not state a precise yield multiplier or the exact chance of a Super Crop. It also does not list nutrient amounts or station costs. We do not publish numbers that the official source does not provide. Once Early Access is playable, these details can be checked in the game.
Aquaponics and trellis farming are also named on the official website. Detailed rules for those systems were not confirmed in the checked sources. Historical concepts from development diaries should not be read as unlock instructions. Treat them as part of the game’s direction rather than a step-by-step guide.
Sustainable farming and renewable energy
Loftia is a solarpunk game, and sustainability runs through its farming. The Steam store description supports sustainable growing and renewable energy themes. The official website presents farming as part of building a home among floating islands. Farming connects to crafting and community life rather than standing alone.
Renewable power also matters for crafting. Beta previews described crafting machines powered by a battery charged by a solar station on your island. That suggests your island’s energy setup supports more than one activity. Our crafting guide covers the power system in more detail.
Community farming
Farming is not only a solo activity in Loftia. Devlogs 13 and 14 on BackerKit describe cooperative community farming in the Hanging Gardens. Players can work together on shared farming goals there. The Hanging Gardens are part of Early Access rather than the demo.
A creator published a community farm event beginner’s guide during the Beta in April 2026. It is useful as a historical reference for how such events looked at the time. Event rules and capacities may be different in Early Access. Check the current game before relying on Beta event details.
Community farming reflects the game’s cooperative design. The official release date trailer’s description highlights co-operative farming, crafting and community projects. The official demo page says bigger world projects expand in Early Access. Expect more shared farming goals after launch.
Crop safety in a shared world
Because Loftia is an online shared world, other players can visit neighborhoods. A recent creator tips video for the October demo flagged crop protection as a concern. Its description did not explain a specific permission setting. We do not infer one without readable evidence.
The developer discussed guest permissions as an evolving design in Devlogs 11 and 12. Those notes are historical and not a final specification. Check the current housing and permission options in the game before inviting visitors. That is the safest way to protect your crops.
Farming, cooking and earning Dew
Crops feed into other parts of the game. The developer described using farmed ingredients at cooking stations in Devlogs 13 and 14. Cooking is listed among the proficiencies expanded in Early Access. Farming is therefore the start of a longer chain.
Beta players reported earning Dew, the regular currency, by selling produce and food. That supports farming as a starting point for income. However, no current crop profit table or best crop has been verified. Our money guide explains how to compare value in your own game.
A Beta-era creator money guide covered crops such as lettuce and dishes such as carrot soup. Those topics came from its chapter list and description, and its numbers belong to the Beta. Prices and balance may have changed since then. Use such guides as ideas to test, not as current values.
What still needs testing
Several farming details are not confirmed in current official sources. These include the best crop, growth times, fertilizer amounts, watering intervals and event capacity. Income per crop is also unverified. We leave these out until they can be checked against the current build.
Early Access begins on November 3, 2026 at 1pm EST on Windows and macOS. That is when advanced farming systems such as Hydroponics Stations become available. The announced US price is US$29.99, with a limited-time launch price of US$24.89. We will update this guide with verified details after launch.
Until then, the demo is the best place to learn the basics of planting and harvesting. Keep notes on what you see in your own game rather than relying on old Beta numbers. When Early Access opens, compare those notes with the new systems. That habit makes it easier to adapt as the game changes.
